Hockley Abbey Folding Rule No. 1390

Boxwood folding rule marked 'Trade Mark Hockley Abbey, No. 1390, Square, Line'. Rule is marked out in inches up to 24" long overall. One section of rule has a brass slide, slide is very stiff when adjusting. The rule is warped, when shut one side or rule is raised 3mm above the opposite side. Either side of rule has some staining marks.

Folding boxwood rule marked J. Rabone & Sons Birmingham, England, Warranted Best Boxwood, no. 1247, also marked lines squares. The brass slide rule, unfortunately is no longer slides. Retains 1 locating pin, has a small chip to edge of rule. Rule is marked out in inches up to 24" long overall, also marked with angled measurements to hinges.

Hockley Abbey Miniature Rule no. 1150

A little folding rule marked Hockley Abbey Trade Mark, made in England, no. 1150. This little rule retains two locating pins, has some staining mainly to outside face of rule. Come with original leather case (poor condition case with tear). Rule measure 12" when fully extended and is marked out in inches.

An old 36" long folding rule marked Pat'd 12.13.1910, Pat'd 7.29.1913, Pat'd 11.2.1915, Pat'd 12.24.1918. One side of rule is marked outside measure that measures from 1" up to 36" the reverse side is marked inside measure and is marked from 8" up to 44".

An architect's boxwood folding rule with German silver fittings made by Bemrose & Sons, Derby. Hinge is marked B & S. LD. R.O. Rule is marked out in inches up to 24" long overall. Good clean inside face, outside of rule has some marks and discolouration (see photos). Retains two locating pins.

Preston Architects Folding Rule

A boxwood folding rule marked E. Preston & Sons B’Ham Eng, Trade marked EP (Preston logo) Warranted Box, also marked Hayward Hookey & Towell. When closed the rule is slightly sprung, outside of rule has faded slightly with some marks and staining. Inside of rule is clean and clearly marked and has bevelled edges to insides of the rule, hinge is marked with some angled measurements. The measurements are marked out in inches on both sides up to 24” long overall. A nice old collectable Preston folding rule that maintains one locating pin.

An old boxwood rule marked John Rabone & Sons Birm, Warranted Boxwood, no. 1377. Has some ware / staining to outside of rule. This old John Rabone folding rule is marked out in inches up to 24” long overall.

J. Rabone Architects Ivory Rule

An old architects ivory rule with German Silver fittings. Rule is marked J. Rabone & Sons Birmingham, rule is bevelled on all edges. There is some discolouration, has a number of scratches to outside of hinge, lacks locating pin also has 2 chips near centre of rule (see photo). Rule measures 24” long overall.

Architects rule by J. Rabone and Sons

A four fold 24” architects rule marked “J Rabone & sons, Makers, Birmingham”
Rule in boxwood with hinges and fittings made from German silver, main hinge has 180 degrees marked halfway across hinge. Slide to one outer section of rule, one pin missing to inner edge of rule and one pin missing to face of hinge. The rule has some wear / chips out of rule caused by pins, rule is slightly sprung approx 1/16” (2mm).
Some small dents / marks around pin to main hinge.
Rule is wasted to inner edges and has various measurements and scales including on outer edges of rule.

A collection of 3 Chesterman rules, collection includes:
1 x Rabone Chesterman folding rule no. 1161, marked out in millimetres up to 1000mm long overall, slightly sprung when shut.
1 x Chesterman rust less steel rule no. 1309 marked out in inches up to 12” long overall.
1 x Rabone Chesterman rust less steel rule no. 10R marked out in inches up to 12” long overall.
All three rules are very clean.

An old boxwood rule with brass fittings marked The John Williamson Co Ltd 12 Gerrard St London. This has a 1/4" scale running up to 24” on each leg, rule measures 6” to each leg overall.

Architects folding boxwood rule no. 1246 made by J. Rabone & Sons, Birmingham, England. This old rule has a slide out brass rule marked out in inches. Rule is bevelled on one side. Rule is marked out in inches to both sides, also marked ‘8 Square’ & ‘Line’, also marked with angled measurements to hinge which is also marked with the previous user’s initials. Retains one of two locating pins. Slightly misaligned when in the closed position. The recess where the brass rule sits has had a fine shaving taken off the edge by the previous woodworker.

SOLD - F. Robson Pitchometer

A scarce well made Tates Pitchometer made by F. Robson, Newcastle On Tyne. Designed to measure the right pitch and angle on a propeller. This pitchometer is made from boxwood and possibly German Silver that is stamped '4'. Face is marked out in inches, reverse is marked with a table and is marked '60 minutes Equal 1 degree, Dia in feet, pitch in FMMT, (see photos).

Boxwood folding rule made by John Rabone & Sons Birmn, no. 2550. One side of rule has a round edge. Rule is marked out in inches up to 24" long overall. Has two hairline cracks 20mm long close to hinge.

Boxwood folding rule marked Trade mark Hockley Abbey, made in England, no.11591. Rule is marked out in inches to both sides up to 24” long. Rule is slightly misaligned when closed. A good clean rule that’s probably had little use, retains its locating pin and measurements are clearly marked.
