Sorby Tools

2 beading planes made by Sorby. Front end of planes are marked I. Sorby Sheffield. Includes:
1 x 5/8", 1 x 3/8".

Both planes are marked to the ends with the same user name. Planes are marked with a small number of dents. Both plane retain near full length cutting irons.

An old pair of sheep shears made by Robert Sorby. Blade is marked Robt Sorby & Sons, Sheffield, Cast Steel also marked with a cross mark and two crown marks.

5 firmer gouges made by Sorby. Includes:
1 x 15mm in-cannel gouge, I. Sorby, ash handle, 1 x 14mm out-cannel gouge, I.Sorby, ash handle,
1 x 12mm out-cannel gouge, I.Sorby, boxwood handle,
1 x 10mm in-cannel gouge, I. Sorby, boxwood handle, blade is slight off centre of handle, boxwood handle,
1 x 3mm out-cannel gouge, I & H Sorby, boxwood octagonal handle.

Boxwood handled socket chisel made by I. Sorby. This old chisel has a number of dents and 2 cracks to handle 40mm long plus the previous woodworkers name stamp.

An old mortice chisel made by I & H Sorby. Handle is marked with the previous woodworkers name stamps otherwise a good clean handle.

1 x 24mm wide, 1 x 23mm, 1 x 20mm (has minor pitting marks), 1 x 9mm, 1 x 8mm, 1 x 7mm.

These chisels have had some good use with marks and dents to handles and speckling of black staining to blades. These chisels measure from 252mm up to 280mm long overall.

3 long shallow paring gouges made by I.Sorby. Collection includes:
1 x 38mm (1 1/2") gouge,
1 x 32mm (1 1/4") woodworking gouge,
1 x 13mm (1/2") paring gouge.
These Sorby paring gouges measure from 315mm up to 392mm long overall.

Boxwood handled bevel edge paring chisel with brass ferule and long 205mm blade made by I. Sorby. Blade is marked with some very minor staining. Blade is marked with a small number of very minor pits and some speckles of black staining. Handle has a chip 15mm wide by 10mm to striking end, gouge half way down handle, previous woodworkers name stamp and is slightly split out on the striking end. .

Handles are marked with the previous woodcarvers name stamps and have a number of marks and dents. Blades are marked with some minor speckles of black staining.

4 Turning tools made by Robert Sorby fitted with mahogany handles and copper ferules. Collection includes:
1 x 29mm turning gouge,
1 x 12mm spindle turning gouge, blade is angled slightly to the right,
1 x 8mm turning gouge,
1 x 13mm by 6mm beading and parting tool.

Two woodworking planes made by I.Sorby, includes:
1 x ovolo, marked to rear ¼, has a deep scratch to one side and dents to rear of plane,
1 x ogee plane, marked to rear 3/8, has some nicks and scratches to body. Both Sorby woodworking planes retain near full length cutting irons.

Ash handled drawknife made by Robert Sorby with straight blade. This drawknife has seen very little use if any.

Two old socket chisels with boxwood handles made by I & H Sorby and Robert Sorby. Includes:
1 x 18mm wide socket gouge made by I & H Sorby.

Two old and collectable chisels, both tools are marked with patches of heavy pitting more so with the socket gouge.
These old woodworking socket chisels measure from 342mm up to 351mm long overall.

Two old turning tools made by I & H Sorby, includes:
1 x 38mm skew chisel with beech handle that has a 70 mm long crack, has some speckling of staining to blade and some minor speckles of pitting.
1 x 15mm turning gouge with beech handle, blade is marked with some speckling of pitting and black staining.

Collection of 5 turning tools made by Sorby, includes the following turning tools:
1 x 28mm wide skew chisel by Robert Sorby,
1 x 20mm wide round nose scraper by I. Sorby,
1 x 20mm wide round nose scraper by I. Sorby,
1 x 7mm wide turning gouge by Robert Sorby,

These Sorby wood turning tools and chisels measure from 348mm up to 468mm long overall.

Boxwood handled cranked paring gouge, blade is marked I.Sorby Sheffield, has a replacement Marples handle, there is a slight gap between the brass ferule and the shoulder of the blade. Good clean blade and handle.

1 x 19mm paring gouge with hexagonal handle, blade is marked with a couple of small patches of pitting / staining.

A large and deep paring gouge made by I & H Sorby, this old woodworking gouge has had its handle replaced, the blade has some pitting to front of gouge which would not effect the gouge (see photo), the rear of the gouge is clean and free of pitting.
