Stanley no. 2 Smoothing Plane

A lovely little rosewood handled no 2 smoothing plane made by Stanley with a cast iron body, retains part of original decal to rear handle. Full length cutter is marked Stanley SW, made in USA (sweetheart logo). Inner body is japanned black. Used by cabinet makers and woodworkers.

In our experience this plane is often found with cracks to the rear handle and base of front knob.

Stanley Smoothing Plane no. 3

The Stanley no. 3 smoothing plane also known as a bench plane was made with rosewood handles on early models and then beech handles on later models. The plane was made from cast iron with a japanned finish.

The Stanley no. 3 smoothing plane was in manufacture from the late 1800's to the late 1900's and is used by cabinet makers and joiners for smoothing, cleaning off timber and finishing work.

Carriage makers rabbet plane no. 10 made by Stanley. This plane is constructed from cast iron with a japanned finish, nickel plated lever cap, fitted with rosewood handles on earlier models and beech on later models.

Stanley Universal Combination Plane no. 55

An old and collectable rosewood handled universal combination plane no. 55 made by Stanley. A complete plane would includes 55 interchangeable cutters, main section, sliding section, auxiliary centre bottom, cam rest, long and short arms, 2 gauges, 2 spurs, Stanley how to use booklet (this book is often missing) original Stanley wooden box. The plane body of the Stanley 55 plane pictured is marked Stanley SW (sweetheart logo) made in USA no. 55. side fence is marked trade mark 55, the depth gauge is marked US. PAT 4-11-22, booklet is marked Stanley tools New Britain CONN, USA, copyrighted 1921 by the Stanley Rule and Level plant. Cutters are held in slotted sections of the main box. The plane has a nickel plating finish.

The universal combination plane is designed to cut a wide range of different mouldings, rabbets, tongue and groove, plows etc..

41 special extra cutters were also made for this plane and were fitted in 4 wooden boxes.

Stanley Core Box Plane no. 57

An early rosewood handled core box plane no. 57 made by Stanley. Body was made form cast iron and marked No. 57. PAT 3-10.96. Side extensions are marked Stanley, also marked with ‘B’. Retains the original cutter that reads Stanley Rule & Level Co. This old tool was finished with a nickel plated finish, a few models can also be found with a japanned finish.

The plane pictured has a single pair of side extensions which came with the plane, additional side extensions were also available.

Beech handled hand beader no. 69 made by Stanley, lever cap is marked PAT 2-86. This tool was originally made with 6 interchangeable cutters.

The hand beader was made in the early 1900's from cast iron with a nickel plated finish.

The Stanley no. 79 side rabbet plane was made both in the USA and the UK from around 1920's onwards. The plane was made from cast iron with a nickel plated finish, war models had a black japanned finish. Earlier models of this plane (type 1) have a half round cut out of the frame as can be seen in the top photograph, this was then changed on later models to a straight cast with a small hole in the centre as can be seen in the bottom photo, a rear fence was also added.

Used by cabinet makers, woodworkers to plane thin shavings off grooves, dadoes, the plane has two cutter to allow for cuts in either direction.

Later second hand models often lack the side fence.

An early 1900's cabinet maker's scraper plane no. 85 made by Stanley. Made from cast iron with a japanned finish this no. 85 scraper plane features tilting rosewood handle and knob.

Designed to scrape surfaces of wood, used by cabinet makers and joiners.

An early type 1 edge trimming black plane no. 95 made by Stanley (name stamp is written in script), this particular model is marked to the cast iron body PAT.5.14.12. Has a skew cutting iron marked Stanley Made in USA.

The Stanley no. 95 plane was made in the early - mid 1900's and has a black japanned finish, a handy little plane used by cabinet makers to square an edge.

Stanley Cabinet Makers Edge Plane no. 97 also known as a piano maker's plane. This plane was made in USA by Stanley. Blade is marked Stanley SW made in USA (Sweetheart logo). The knob is made from rosewood. Corners of the plane are sometimes found very very slightly rounded we believe this was added by the manufacturer to stop the plane from being damaged during use, the front corners of the plane is where this tools is prone to being damaged.

This plane was made during the early - mid 1900's with a cast iron body and japanned finish.

A little left handed side rebate plane model number 99 made in USA by Stanley with rosewood knob. Cutter is marked Made in USA. Cast iron body has a nickel plated finish. The model pictured has a side fence and a Stanley wooden box.

The Stanley no. 99 side rebate plane was made in the early to mid 1900's designed to plane thin shavings off grooves, dadoes.. used by cabinet makers and woodworkers.

A 1/4 inch corner rounding plane no. 144, marked to body Stanley No.144 PAT APL’D FOR, Made in USA, sole is marked 1/4 CIR. Cutter is marked Stanley SW New Britain CONN USA 1/4 CIR.

This old corner rounding plane was manufactured around the 1920's - 1940's from cast iron with a black japanned finish.

These handy planes were designed to create a round on a piece of wood.

The Stanley no. 144 plane was available in different sizes: 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2".

Stanley no. 212 Scraper Plane

The Stanley no. 212 scraper plane was designed for scraping on smaller work areas, the plane is used a single hand. This tool was mainly used by musical instrument makers and cabinet makers. The cast of these planes were marked in script 'Stanley no. 212'. The models we have come across have no markings to the blade, though the scraper blade is sometimes marked with the Stanley mark. The plane is made from cast iron with brass knurled adjuster knobs, a rosewood knob and is finished with black japanning. The scraper blade measures 35mm wide.

A small cast iron router that was made by Stanley, model number 271. This little woodworking router was manufactured in both the UK and America and was mainly finished with nickel plating, was also for a short period finished with japanning.

Used by cabinet makers for cleaning grooves, working with inlay, hinges etc...

Stanley Butt Gauge no. 95

Stanley butt gauge model number 95 made from cast iron finished with nickel plating, also made with a japanned finish during world war 2. The model in the photo is marked Stanley made in USA, these tools are often marked with patents.

This handy little tool is designed for marking hinges, rabbet jambs...

Common problems: blades are often worn down through use with little use left in them.
