A decorative ultimatum framed brace made by William Marples, this particular brace is made from ebony with a brass frame. The head of the brace is often inlayed with a ring of bone or ivory. A Sheffield made smoothing plane X4 by Marples with closed beech handle. Cutting iron is marked W.Marples & Sons Sheffield England. The Msrples X4 features an adjustable mouth that is adjusted by 2 screws behind the front knob. A collectors plane that dates around the mid 1900's.
